HOME STUDY SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

A home study is an in-depth social study that looks at one's legal history, current life circumstances, and home environment in order to certify them as a safe prospective placement for a child in need of housing.

Florida law dictates that home studies be conducted in anticipation of licensing of a foster care home, prior to approval of an individual or couple as eligible adoptive parents, and before an adult is able to assume legal custodial care of a minor.

Because of the overwhelming need for home studies and the limited number of agents available to conduct these investigations, community agencies often find themselves over-extended, resulting in a longer wait for children in foster care who are already in desperate need of a loving home.
